Stop1 is a party that I started in 2024. The initial impetus to start it was to create a space for the two sides of my friend groups. Half of my friends are Brooklyn creatives who start partying at 4 a.m., and the other half are Manhattan yuppies who stop going out at 2 a.m. I wanted to create a space where both groups could meet, have fun, and dance. Most importantly, I created Stop1 to be a platform for other local artists to play their truest sound.
The event has grown from just me playing to a room of 35 people to an operation of six people with over 500 attendees. The reason why the party continues to grow is that the team places enormous emphasis on production and creating an inclusive environment. After nearly two years of parties, we’ve learned some essential lessons, such as the need for stickers on phones, hiring a dedicated door person, and always returning to the music.
Stop1 is a labour of love, a community of weirdos and freaks, and, most importantly, a lot of fun.
